Songs about being young and growing up…

Nearly 20 years old and halfway through college. It’s an odd, disorienting space between too young and too old. Too young to be careless, but still too old to have it all together. It’s a weird feeling.

This is a collection of songs that have resonated with me along with my favorite lyrics.

1. Youth – Daughter

And if you’re still bleeding, you’re the lucky ones
‘Cause most of our feelings, they are dead and they are gone

2. Archie, Marry Me – Alvvays

You’ve expressed explicitly your contempt for matrimony
You’ve student loans to pay and will not risk the alimony

3. Ribs – Lorde

This dream isn’t feeling sweet
We’re reeling through the midnight streets
And I’ve never felt more alone
It feels so scary, getting old

4. Young Blood – The Naked and Famous

The bittersweet between my teeth
Trying to find the in-betweens
Fall back in love eventually

5. 1979 – The Smashing Pumpkins

And we don’t know just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess

6. Changes – David Bowie

Strange fascination, fascinating me
Changes are taking the pace I’m going through

7. Landslide – Fleetwood Mac

Well, I’ve been afraid of changing
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you

8. Bros – Wolf Alice

Shake your hair, have some fun
Forget our mothers and past lovers, forget everyone

9. Teen Age Riot – Sonic Youth

I hope it works out my way
Cause it’s getting kind of quiet in my city’s head

10. Yes I’m Changing – Tame Impala

I saw it different, I must admit
I caught a glimpse, I’m going after it
They say people never change but that’s bullshit
They do
